ZAK LAWTON SECURES BLU JUNIOR BRITISH LONGBOARD CHAMPIONSHIP.

Zak was crowned the junior longboard champion on the 18th September 2010 at the final event of the BLU 2010 tour at Gwithian Beach in Cornwall. The surf was small and onshore, which made for a nailbiting conclusion to the season with all surfers having to make the very best of the conditions.
The 17 year old from Croyde commented ' this has been my main goal since i started surfing'. He is now taking a few months out, to heal a niggling knee injury, which he has been carrying since the Europeans. We all look forward to next season, and hope he enjoys the same success.

The field should be strong this year, and the current surf prediction is 2ft swell, a 10MPH southerly, providing a knee high wave. This could level the playing field, and give opportunity to many surfers. The weather is likely to be overcast and with some heavy showers. Things should improve as the weekend progresses, and don't forget its a bank holiday.........oh...and of course... the very best of luck to all our fine local talent....young and old. Lets see some silverware!

Croyde Long-boarder Clinches a Superb Second in the Euro-junior Surfing Championships Portugal
Zak Lawton has just returned from representing his country at the Junior European Surfing Championships at Afife in North Portugal.
After a gruelling eight days of hotly contested competition Zak secured 2nd spot in the Under 18 longboarding division. He very narrowly missed first position, in what was a nip and tuck final.
The surf was a challenging 4ft onshore, and after numerous positon changes, when the final hooter sounded Zak was in second. He was the highest placed competitor from the English team, and it shows a very encouraging progression in his ability to secure titles in competition. Surely the future for this young English surfer is very bright indeed. Congratulations Zak from us all at Croydesurf.
The final result for the English Team was 4th. A tremendous achievement for a surf squad competing against the very best in Europe.

Congratulations to Zak Lawton on again securing the Junior English Longboard Title.
Local longboard Junior Zak Lawton (pictured below on a shortboard!!!), retains his English Longboard Title at the Protest English National Surf Championships held at Watergate Bay on the weekend of 24th/25th April 2010.

The six man final was a tough affair, in some onshore lumpy conditions, but Zak came out on top in the under 18 class. Zak said "the conditions were really tough, 2ft onshore and it was really close with Bude's Lewis Strich, but my turns and progressive surfing got me through. I'm so stoked with the win....thanks to the support of Animal and Tomas Technologies, as well as family and friends who have helped me get this far"
This win fully justifies Zaks recent selection to represent his country at the Eurojunior 2010 surf championships being held in Viana du Castelo Portugal in mid May. .....................here at Croydesurf...we wish him all the luck in the world.
